Figgy Pudding
A traditional dessert enjoyed during the holiday season, figgy pudding is a delightful treat that combines the rich flavors of figs, spices, and brandy. Follow this recipe to create a warm, flavorful dessert that's perfect for your holiday celebrations.
1 cup milk
1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Zest of 1 lemon
1/2 cup brandy
In a small saucepan, simmer the chopped figs in milk over low heat for 10 minutes. Allow to cool.
In a large bowl, mix the cooled figs and milk with breadcrumbs, brown sugar, almonds, melted butter, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon zest until well combined.
Grease a pudding mold or a medium-sized bowl and pour the mixture into it.
Cover the mold with aluminum foil and steam for 2 hours, checking water level regularly.
Allow the pudding to cool slightly before unmolding. Heat the brandy in a small saucepan, light it with a match, and pour over the pudding before serving.
